How to Squish a Kayak....

New video: Watch how it's done!

By: Christina Russell
Date: April 18, 2007

What do you do when you cant get over100 pounds and your boat is impossible to throw? Stick 'er in the oven! Yep yep. That's what I did today with my family. We were all very anxious to turn the oven on broil and give 'er but it worked out. here's how it went:

1. We propped up the kayak in the oven and turned the oven on broil...

2. Leave in the oven until the plastic begins to become glossy..if your boat is already shiny enough to signal in an airplane, this is a little less than five minutes. It should be hot to touch on the inside when it's ready to take out...

3. Stand on the area you want to squish...in my case this was the bow first...then the stern...

4. Remember: when you finish, you still have to put the foam blocks back in your boat.... this is when you need a cool tool :D

5. Take your boat out and TEST TEST TEST! This one was a success...it was SOOO much easier to throw around. i will probably be squishing my Vision a little more in the stern ( I was conservative).

So....if you are in the mood for squishing your boat, try this method! It was uber easy and pretty fun. Make sure you wear five pairs of socks eh?!

Happy paddling everyone!

Secret Spot in Bend

By: Christina Russell
Date: April 11, 2007

If you read Kim's most recent post, you all know we are neck deep in school work...16 credits to be exact. Between my Writing, Nutrition, and two Psych classes, I'm pretty damn busy. But Today, the heavens opened up! WOO HOOO!!!

Kim, Josh, and I headed out to a spot somewhere in Bend (we'll leave it at "somewhere" for now. If you come visit, we'll show ya!) Area 51 is essentially a loop hole. Playboaters left is the sweet spot. On the right, there's a nice rock looking to take some plastic off your boat....so stay left :).

Kim and josh hopped in immediately while I shot some photos...it looked like it was going to rain so I wanted the shots before the agua came!

After shooting photos for half an hour or so, I HAD to get in. Arg! It just looked so awesome. :) Because I recently lost six pounds...lots of school, stress, and weights, Kim let me borrow her Pocket Rocket...I approve of that boat! AWESOME!

Back to School for us...

Pocket Rocket Loopage at the "secret spot" somewhere in the desert of Oregon

Last week, after our week and a half spring break, it was time to go back to school. Christina and I are both taking about 16 credits, so we are LOADED with schoolwork. We haven't been able to get out to to paddle all that much, not to mention the temporary lack of water. Arg! The water is coming back though! We've had rain the past few days, and snow today, so we are planning a play sesh for mid-week. Sweet!

This weekend, April 13-15, 2007, Christina and I are attending the Collegiate Nationals in Reno, Nevada, and competing in both the Boater-cross and Freestyle events. It should be a pretty good time!

Collegiate Nationals!

We're hoping to get some sweet video and such, so stay posted for a big photo dump when we get home!

Till then, Cheers!

(Also, stay posted for more photos from the "Secret spot." I was able to get away from school with friend Josh McKeown today to play, and Wednesday the whole crew is going out! Yee-Haw!)
